As first reported by The New York Post, Italian bakery Princi has leased 18,000 square feet of space at Van Brunt and Hamilton, where The Columbia Street Waterfront District meets Red Hook. The Milan-based bakery was recently acquired by Starbucks. The coffee giant will feature Princi products at their new Reserve Roastery locations (The first New York location will be opening at 61 9th Avenue in Manhattan later this year.) The Red Hook location will serve as a commercial kitchen and plans may eventually include a commissary open to the public. The real question is this: Will the smell of thousands of baked goods help sell cars? The bakery will be sharing the complex with the newly expanded Tesla showroom.
